How is WineCap different from buying wine directly or through an auction house?

The main difference is that WineCap removes the work of sourcing, storing, insuring, and selling wine yourself, and replaces it with data-backed selection and a managed process.

Buying directly or at auction means you're responsible for verifying provenance, arranging appropriate storage (informal storage can affect both value and insurability), insuring the wine yourself, and finding a buyer when you want to exit – all of which take time and expertise most investors don't have. Auction houses also charge buyer's and seller's premiums that can run well into double digits combined, on top of unpredictable hammer prices.

WineCap centralises all of this: wine is selected using data on price history and liquidity, stored under bond at LCB, insured throughout, and tracked continuously through Wine Track so you always know current value. When you're ready to sell, WineCap manages that process rather than you needing to find a buyer or consign to an auction.
