Château d'Issan, located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, is an estate steeped in rich history and tradition. It was classified as Third Growth in the 1855 classification. With origins tracing back to the 12th century, it stands as one of the oldest winemaking establishments in the region. The château's legendary past includes the tale that its wine was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet, future king of England, in 1152. This legacy positions Château d'Issan not just as a producer of fine wines, but as a historical emblem of the Bordeaux region. The estate is situated just south of the illustrious Château Margaux. About 70% of its holdings are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon with the remaining Merlot. In 1933, the estate was acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Since then, it has been meticulously restored, both in its architecture and vineyards, to uphold and enhance its prestigious reputation.
