Château Giscours is a highly-regarded estate in the Margaux appellation, with a history that traces back to the 14th century. This grand estate, situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, has been a notable presence in the region for centuries. With 165 hectares under vine, the estate is one of the largest in the Left Bank. About 100 hectares are within the Margaux appellation. The château experienced a significant transformation in the 19th century when its owners invested heavily in the estate, elevating its status to that of a Third Growth as classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The modern era of Giscours began in the 1990s under the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, who implemented extensive renovations and improvements in both the vineyard and winery, cementing Château Giscours' reputation as a producer of exceptional Margaux wines. One of the changes made under his stewardship is the move to Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wines. The estate’s labels are typically three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon with the remaining portion Merlot. The estate also cultivates small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The vineyards of Château Giscours boast a terroir characterised by deep gravel and sandy soils, ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate's commitment to sustainable viticulture is evident in their meticulous care of the vines, which average around 35 years in age. Winemaking at Giscours is a blend of tradition and innovation. The grapes are harvested by hand and subjected to a rigorous selection process. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats, followed by ageing in French oak barrels. This methodical approach ensures the wine’s expressive character and balance, allowing the nuances of the Margaux terroir to shine through. Château Giscours features dark fruit, cassis, spice, violet and subtle hints of oak, leading to a plush palate coupled with silky tannins. This wine has considerable cellaring potential.
