A brief history of Chateau Giscours 3eme Cru Classe, Margaux, Bordeaux

Château Giscours is a highly-regarded estate in the Margaux appellation, with a history that traces back to the 14th century. This grand estate, situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, has been a notable presence in the region for centuries. With 165 hectares under vine, the estate is one of the largest in the Left Bank. About 100 hectares are within the Margaux appellation. The château experienced a significant transformation in the 19th century when its owners invested heavily in the estate, elevating its status to that of a Third Growth as classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The modern era of Giscours began in the 1990s under the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, who implemented extensive renovations and improvements in both the vineyard and winery, cementing Château Giscours' reputation as a producer of exceptional Margaux wines. One of the changes made under his stewardship is the move to Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wines. The estate’s labels are typically three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon with the remaining portion Merlot. The estate also cultivates small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
