A brief history of Chateau Pichon Baron 2eme Cru Classe, Pauillac, Bordeaux
Château Pichon Longueville Baron, often simply referred to as Château Pichon Baron, is one of the most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate's origins trace back to the late 17th century, when the Pichon Longueville family, who were already established in the Bordeaux wine trade, decided to make their own wine. The château gained its current name and stature in the 19th century under the direction of Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville. After a division of the property among his heirs, the portion that became known as Pichon Baron began to forge its own identity, marked by its distinctive château built in 1851. In recent decades, the estate has since enjoyed significant investment, leading to improvements in both the vineyards and the winery, cementing its status as a leading Second Growth Bordeaux. The estate’s vineyards span 73 hectares planted to about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% to Merlot, alongside small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
