Château Haut-Brion, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, stands as one of the most prestigious estates in the Bordeaux region, with a rich history that dates back to 1533. It holds the distinction of being the only wine from the Graves region included in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, where it was awarded First Growth status. This estate, the oldest of the five First Growths, has been at the forefront of winemaking innovation for centuries, introducing techniques that have set standards in the industry. Haut-Brion's reputation for producing wines of unparalleled quality and complexity is rooted in its unique terroir and the visionary approach of its management over the years. It has been owned by the American Dillon family since 1935. Most of the estate's 51 hectares are planted with black grapes with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot encompassing 48 hectares. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are cultivated in the remaining vineyards.

Unusually for the Left Bank, Château Haut-Brion's Grand Vin is renowned for being Merlot-led, with Cabernet Sauvignon adding supportive structure and depth. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot also appear in the blend. The dominance of Merlot makes the wine softer and rounder than its fellow Left Bank wines.
