Understanding Chateau Haut-Brion, Blanc, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux
Crafted from a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, Haut-Brion Blanc is the product of meticulous vineyard management and precision winemaking. The vines are planted on the estate’s distinctive gravelly soils, which provide excellent drainage and contribute to the complexity and minerality of the wine. The unique microclimate of Pessac-Léognan, coupled with the gravel terroir, creates optimal conditions for these varietals to thrive. Selective harvesting ensures that only grapes of optimal maturity and health are chosen. After careful sorting, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing before being fermented in oak. The wine is then aged for 13 to 16 months in French oak, half of which is new, a stage that adds complexity, texture and depth while preserving fruit clarity. Haut-Brion Blanc features citrus, orchard fruit, toasty oak hints, vanilla and a flinty minerality on a rich, full-bodied palate with seamless balancing acidity and oak. This wine has exceptional ageing potential.
