A relatively young property, Château Valandraud is the brainchild of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, who embarked on their winemaking journey in 1989 with a small parcel of land in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France. This estate is often heralded as the birthplace of the famous "Garagiste" movement, reflecting its initial small-scale, high-quality production that challenged the traditional Bordeaux winegrowing and making norms. Starting with just a few hectares, Valandraud quickly rose to prominence, showcasing the potential of meticulous vineyard management and innovative winemaking techniques. Its meteoric rise was capped by its elevation to Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B status in 2012, a testament to the exceptional quality of its wines and its significant impact on the region. The estate cultivates 10 hectares with Merlot dominating, followed by Cabernet Franc and small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Carmenère. White varieties are evenly split among Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Sauvignon Gris.
