A brief history of Chateau Lafon-Rochet 4eme Cru Classe, Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux
Located in the esteemed Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Lafon-Rochet is a historic estate with its origins dating back to the early 17th century. It was among the properties classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, affirming its status as a Fourth Growth estate. The Tesseron family, renowned for their Cognac production and deep roots in the Bordeaux winegrowing community, owned and revitalised Lafon-Rochet from the 1960s. Under their guidance, the château underwent significant modernisation, yet always with a respectful nod to its rich heritage. The striking yellow facade of the estate's buildings, set against the verdant backdrop of meticulously tended vineyards, has become the colour famously associated with the estate’s wine labels and marketing. In 2021, Franco-Swiss real-estate billionaire Jacky Lorenzetti, who has interests in other Bordeaux properties, bought the estate. The property spans 45 hectares encompassing about 40 individual vine parcels which see individual vinification in the winery for terroir precision.
