Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Gruaud Larose was founded in the 18th century. It was awarded the rank of Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and its first label is widely viewed as a quintessentially Saint-Julien wine appreciated for its age-worthiness and sensible price tag. Château Gruaud Larose is often referred to as the "king of wines, the wine of kings", underscoring its esteemed position among the Bordeaux Grands Crus. With its acquisition in 1997 by the well-known vigneron Merlaut family, the château has preserved its historical essence while embracing modernity, enhancing its viticultural and oenological practices. The sprawling estate is surrounded by some of the most revered names in the Medoc. The house’s vines encompass 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and about one-third Merlot with the remaining quantity Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. There are plans to increase the portion of Cabernet Sauvignon to 70%.
