The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, with around 80% new oak used to impart complexity and integrate the tannins. On the palate, Château Léoville Las Cases reveals concentrated black fruit, such as cassis and blackberry, layered with tobacco, graphite, and cedar notes. The wine has a firm tannic structure and vibrant acidity, making it one of the longest-lived wines in the Médoc. With age, it develops even more complexity, showcasing secondary and tertiary notes of truffle, leather, and cigar box, making it a quintessential example of the power and elegance of Saint-Julien wines.
