Located in the prestigious Sauternes appellation, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey's origins trace back to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest estates in its region. It was officially recognised for its exceptional dessert wines in the 1855 Sauternes and Barsac Bordeaux Classification, where it was awarded Premier Cru Classé status. Acquired by Swiss businessman Silvio Denz in 2014, the château has since experienced a renaissance, combining traditional winemaking practices with innovative techniques The house has seen numerous owners over centuries, including négociant, Cordier and the multinational Suez Group, which oversaw extensive renovations. The château also boasts a luxury hotel and restaurant owned by Denz and run by Lalique, the crystal firm. The château cultivates about 40 hectares planted about 90% to Sémillon followed by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Illustrious neighbours include Château d'Yquem. The estate has built a reputation for wines that encapsulate the essence of Sauternes, offering a sublime balance between opulence and elegance, with a potential for significant ageing.
