The Les Chenevottes Premier Cru vineyard is one of the larger climats in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet at the northern end of the commune close to the border of Chassagne. Less well-known than other Chassagne-Montrachet Cru’s, the sunny southeast facing vineyards planted on limestone soils can produce impressive results, imparting a flinty minerality to the wines. The fruit for the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet ‘Chenevottes’ comes from a 0.62 ha plot of old vines, planted in 1960. It is located near the northern edge of Chassagne, close to the acclaimed Le Montrachet.

The hand-picked fruit is selected from three sustainably farmed parcels at different elevations: one higher up the slope, the second in the centre, and the third lower down the slope. The thin gravel and pebble soils are rich in limestone, making them perfectly suitable for Chardonnay. With an extended élevage of up to 18 months, in 350 litre demi-muids (up to 30% new oak) without lees stirring, fining or filtration before bottling, these wines are concentrated and precise with an overt flinty minerality. After spending few years in bottle, the wines are often likened to Montrachet, displaying a purity of fruit on the nose and generous richness on the palate. These wines will age beautifully for 5-10+ years. The Wine Advocate has praised their ‘supreme elegance’.
