Understanding M. Chapoutier, Hermitage, l'Ermite Rouge, Rhone
L'Érmite vineyard boasts a unique terroir, characterised by granitic soils and a microclimate that is conducive to the cultivation of Syrah. These conditions facilitate the production of grapes with intense flavours and deep colours. The age of the vines, some of the oldest in the region, contributes significantly to the grape complexity. Fruit is hand-harvested late to ensure optimal alcohol content for a rich, age-worthy wine. Fruit is destemmed and vinified for four weeks in concrete to promote rich fruit purity. The wine matures for 18 to 20 months in a mix of new and one-year-old casks, a step that adds depth and complexity while preserving unique terroir expression. M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Érmite features ripe blackcurrant, smoky mineral, herb and spice in a powerful yet balanced palate with velvety tannins. L'Érmite has exceptional ageing potential.
