Understanding Chateau Figeac Premier Grand Cru Classe A, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
The vineyards of Chateau Figeac are situated on a unique terroir comprising gravel and sand, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate's approach to viticulture emphasises sustainable practices, with a focus on maintaining the health and balance of the vineyard ecosystem. The vine age, some over 40 years old, contributes to the depth and concentration of the fruit. The grapes are harvested with precision and undergo rigorous sorting. Individual parcel fermentation occurs in small conical, open-topped or stainless-steel tanks depending on the vine plot. This is followed by ageing in 100% new French oak barrels. This process allows the wine to develop a nuanced complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit’s flavours. This Grand Vin displays black and red fruit, subtle hints of cedar and tobacco notes in a silky palate with refined tannins and balanced acidity. This wine has considerable ageing potential.
